I don’t know if I have a favorite cookie. I mean how can you possibly pick? But, one thing I do love is a good, chewy snickerdoodle cookie. Growing up, Snickerdoodles always found their way in our Christmas cookie collection. We never made them, but the store bought version we had were so delicious. I don’t even remember who made them, but trust me, they were delicious!
Snickerdoodle cookies are a classic for a reason. They truly are GOOD. This Snickerdoodle cookie recipe combines everything I love about a good cookie. They are soft, yet chewy, and have a wonderful, classic Snickerdoodle flavor. As usual, these cookies require no dough chilling, because if you know me, chasing after my 3 little boys really limits my time to bake and cook, AND, when I want cookies, I want them NOW, not a few hours from now :).
The details
Mixing the dough
This cookie dough can be mixed by hand, or if you have a stand mixer or electric mixer, you may use that. You’ll start by beating together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Once combined, stir in the egg.
Next, you’ll add in the dry ingredients. Mix the dry ingredients into the dough JUST until combined. You don’t want to overmix the dough in this step. You may notice an unusual ingredient in the Snickerdoodles – cream of tartar. Cream of tartar gives Snickerdoodle cookies their chewy texture and characteristic flavor.
Scooping and baking
Scoop the cookie dough by 1.5 tablespoon measurements. Place the cookie dough in your cinnamon sugar mixture and roll the cookie dough ball until completely coated in the mixture. Place cookie dough balls on parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Bake in a preheated 350F oven for 10 minutes. That’s it. No longer. Allow the cookies to fully cool on the cookie sheet.
The best part
That’s it! The cookies are done! Now, the best part – tasting them. If desired, you can sprinkle a touch more cinnamon sugar on top of the cookies, serve and enjoy.
