Peanut Butter Blossoms…a classic you absolutely cannot go wrong with! My favorite Christmas cookies to make every year are definitely these. Although, I don’t know if I have more fun making them or eating them!
I know there are millions of recipes out there for Peanut Butter Blossoms. And, you are probably wondering why choose my recipe over another one you may find.
Well, for those that absolutely love peanut butter, these peanut butter blossoms are heavy on the peanut butter, but have just enough to give them that delicious peanut butter flavor without making them dry and crumbly.
Further, these cookies are extremely easy to make. The recipe uses melted butter which helps to make the cookies more soft and chewy. Melted butter also allows for these cookies to easily be mixed in a large bowl with a whisk. That’s it! No fancy mixers.
Lastly, the ratio of sugars, to butter, to peanut butter to flour, is just the right amount to lend a cookie that is soft, chewy and just incredibly delicious.
If you want to make Christmas cookies this season, I highly recommend making these. They never last long in my household, and they are so fun to make with kids and family.
The details
The components
peanut butter blossom cookie dough
These peanut butter blossoms take only a handful of ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. These cookies have just the right amount of sweetness. The cookie dough is rolled in granulated sugar just before baking adding an extra hint of sweetness and crunch to the cookies.
hershey kisses
It wouldn’t be a peanut butter blossom cookie without the characteristic Hershey kiss in the center of the cookie. The soft and chewy peanut butter cookies paired with the sweet chocolate kiss is just divine.
The ingredients
- Cookie Dough
- unsalted butter – I prefer to use unsalted butter in baking recipes, because then I can add in an amount of salt that works perfectly for the recipe.
- granulated sugar – Granulated sugar helps these cookies achieve slight crispy edges and helps the cookies not spread as much.
- brown sugar – brown sugar adds more complex flavor to the cookie dough and also helps contribute to their moisture and softness.
- egg – only one egg is needed for this cookie dough. Eggs are important in cookie dough, because they help to tenderize the cookies, contributing to their soft texture.
- Creamy Peanut Butter – these peanut butter blossoms use just enough peanut butter to give excellent peanut butter flavor, without making them too dry and crumbly.
- vanilla extract – vanilla extract helps to enhance the flavors in these cookies.
- all-purpose flour – flour is needed for the structure of these cookies.
- baking soda – baking soda helps contribute to the chewiness of the cookies. It also helps the cookies rise just enough to create a soft cookie.
- Coating
- granulated sugar, for rolling – this extra coating of sugar helps to give these cookies just a hint of extra sweetness and adds a crunchy texture to these cookies.
Here’s how to make these cookies
get everything ready
Before I make any recipe, I like to make sure I have all of my ingredients measured and ready to go. It also helps to do this, because if you are out of an ingredient you will know before you mix everything together! This has certainly happened to me before.
During this step, you can turn on your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and get two baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
make the cookie dough.
These peanut butter blossoms come together quickly and easily. So, they’re perfect if you are looking for a last minute Christmas cookie. You don’t need to use any fancy mixers – just a bowl and a whisk. These are actually the perfect cookies to make with kids and family, because they are so easy to make!
You’ll start this recipe by melting butter. The butter needs 5 minutes to cool after melting it. Just let it sit at room temperature after melting it. Allowing the butter to cool helps the cookies not spread as much when baking.
Whisk together the melted butter, sugars, egg, creamy peanut butter and vanilla extract. Next, add in the flour, baking soda. Whisk just until combined.
roll in granulated sugar
Scoop the cookie dough by 1 1/2 tablespoon measurements. Add granulated sugar to a bowl, then add the scooped cookie dough balls into the bowl (only add as many as your bowl can fit. I used a small bowl, so I just did one at a time). Roll the peanut butter blossom cookie dough ball in the granulated sugar, making sure to coat all sides. Place on prepared baking sheets, 2-inches apart.
bake the cookies
Bake these peanut butter blossoms for 9-10 minutes in the preheated oven. The cookies will puff up and appear crackled on the surface. As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, place a chocolate kiss directly in the center of the cookie.
Allow the peanut butter blossoms to cool completely on the baking sheet. This will allow for the chocolate kiss to set up.
Here’s how to make these a bit more Christmas-y
If desired, you can roll these cookies in red or green sugar prior to baking rather than regular white granulated sugar. This will give the cookies fun Christmas colors.
