Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
This Homemade Spaghetti Sauce comes together in minutes, and uses pantry staple ingredients. The sauce is thick, loaded with flavor and smells incredible while cooking. Serve with hot pasta, freshly grated parmesan cheese, fresh basil and warm garlic bread.
My family ate pasta a lot growing up, and when I say pasta, I specifically mean spaghetti. My mom would buy a jar of Prego spaghetti meat sauce and dump it over hot angel hair pasta. She always served it with garlic bread that she bought from the grocer store bakery. Spaghetti tossed in a simple sauce reminds me so much of my growing up days, and it’s a meal I always looked forward to eating.
Since I enjoy cooking, I knew I had to try making my own spaghetti sauce. If you’ve ever wondered how to make spaghetti sauce, I have all the details for you, and surprisingly it’s very easy! This homemade spaghetti sauce uses pantry staple ingredients and it only takes roughly 15 minutes to cook. The flavor is beyond delicious. You won’t be missing the store bought spaghetti sauce after you try this!
The details
prep your ingredients
This spaghetti sauce recipe comes together quickly, so you’ll want to prep your ingredients and have everything ready to go. Trust me, it makes the whole process easier! Although, I must admit, I am terrible at this.
saute the onion, then add the remaining ingredients
You’ll begin by sautéing the onion over medium heat until softened. Add in the ground beef, season with salt and pepper and cook, breaking apart the meat, until browned.
The majority of the work is done at this point. You’ll add in the remaining ingredients, except for the fresh herbs, then bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook uncovered, for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. During this time, the sauce thickens and develops flavor.
cook the pasta
As the spaghetti sauce simmers, I like to cook the pasta. Cook the pasta in a pot of salted water according to package directions. Drain and set aside until the sauce is done cooking.
serve and enjoy!
Add the hot pasta to the spaghetti sauce, along with fresh basil and parsley, and freshly grated parmesan cheese. Toss to combine. I like to serve this with warm garlic bread.
