  • healthier alternative than store-bought, they’re high in protein!

The Components

the dough

The two main components in the dough are flour and Greek yogurt. The Greek yogurt adds protein to the dough as well as calcium and probiotics. The dough comes together in minutes and you can mix it by hand. It does need a little bit of kneading time, just to get the dough to the right consistency.

The filling

I love that these homemade hot pockets are fully customizable. I added pizza toppings to mine – cheese, pizza sauce and pepperoni. However, you can add whatever you want to these! If you want to make a cheeseburger version, you can add cheese and ground hamburger. You can also make these a ham and cheese hot pocket.

Ingredients

These four ingredients are the only ingredients needed to make these tasty homemade Hot Pockets.

  • all-purpose flour
  • Greek yogurt
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • you can add any seasonings you desire (think Italian seasoning, basil, oregano, etc.)

Serving

I recommend serving these warm. If you make pizza hot pockets, you can serve with marinara sauce.

Units Scale

Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups Greek yogurt

Toppings

  • You can add ham and cheese, or pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and pepperoni, or any toppings you desire

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, add flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and Greek yogurt. Mix with a wooden spoon or spatula until dough is combined, then use your hands to knead the dough a few minutes, or until the dough is smooth and not too sticky. You can add a touch more flour if needed, but don’t add too much.

2. Divide the dough into 6 pieces. Working with one dough ball at a time on a lightly floured surface, flatten the dough ball,  then add pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and your desired pizza toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, chopped bell peppers, etc.). Grab the edges of the dough and pinch together in the center to seal the dough around the toppings. Flip the dough over so that the seal is on the bottom. Gently flatten the dough with your hand.

3. In a large skillet over medium-low heat 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add 2-3 pizza hot pockets, cover and cook 4-7 minutes on each side or until lightly golden brown. Repeat with remaining hot pockets.
