Fruit Salad

This Fruit Salad is loaded with a variety of fresh, ripe, juicy fruits, then drizzled with a fresh, citrusy dressing that adds a refreshing taste and keeps the fruit vibrant. This is the perfect snack to munch on during those warm summer days.

Fruit salad is one of my favorite summer sides. It’s refreshing and a great way to enjoy all the fresh, ripe summer fruits.

When making this fruit salad, I wanted a fruit salad that of course was delicious, but also looked vibrant. I chose to add kiwi and pineapple for this reason, to add in the vibrant green and yellow colors. I think kiwi is one of the prettiest fruits! Of course, fruit salad truly is versatile and you can add whatever fruit you desire, but this blend of fruit is delicious.

And, what’s a fruit salad without the dressing?! I added a fresh orange juice and lemon juice dressing over the fruit salad. It added the perfect refreshing flavor to the fruit salad. The juice mixture also helps the fruit to retain its vibrant color, so it’s truly a win-win in both flavor and helping preserve the fruit salad.

I made this fruit salad for a Mother’s Day brunch for my mom. I paired it with my Croissant Egg Bake and Homemade granola, and it was delicious! The perfect way to celebrate my mom.

Here’s what you will love about the fruit salad

  • customizable – you can truly add any fruit you desire to the fruit salad. I liked this mixture of fruit for not only the delicious flavor, but also for the vibrancy of colors.
  • refreshing – this fruit salad is refreshing and the perfect accompaniment to any summer meal, or picnic.
  • easy to make – this fruit salad only takes roughly 20 minutes to make. The hardest part is chopping up the fruit.

Here’s how to make this fruit salad

This fruit salad comes together easily and quickly. The hardest part is chopping up the fresh fruits!

Before starting, I like to sort through the blackberries and remove any that are softened. Soft raspberries will just break apart in the fruit salad when you toss the ingredients together. If the blackberries you have are all on the softer side, you can always just add them in right at the end before serving so that they don’t break apart.

Wash off the blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and grapes. You can wash these all off together, unless your blackberries are soft and you plan to add them in at the end. Add the berries to your serving bowl.

Peel and chop the kiwi, then chop the fresh pineapple. Add both to the serving bowl.

MAKE THE DRESSING

Into a small bowl, squeeze the juice of two oranges and one lemon. Stir to combine then drizzle over the fruit salad. I did not toss my fruit salad at the end, as I poured the dressing evenly over the fruit. You can toss the fruit salad if desired, just do so carefully as the fruit can be fragile.

SERVE

This fruit salad is best served immediately.

Storage

This fruit salad is best served immediately. However, it is still good the next day, just not as good. If you have leftover, store in an airtight container for 1 day in the refrigerator.

FAQ

CAN I USE FROZEN FRUIT?

Frozen fruit tends to get mushy after thawed and would not work well in fruit salad. I recommend using fresh, in season fruits.

CAN I USE ANY FRUIT I LIKE?

Yes! Feel free to use your favorite blend of fruits, or the best fruits that are in season. Mango would add a nice orange color. You could even add in mandarin orange slices, or red reaspberries (although these are very fragile, so you would have to add them at the end). Feel free to be creative.

CAN I MAKE THIS FRUIT SALAD IN ADVANCE?

You can chop the fruits up to one day in advance. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can also make the dressing in advance and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When ready to serve add the fruit to your serving bowl, then pour the dressing evenly over the fruit.

Description

This Fruit Salad is loaded with a variety of fresh, ripe, juicy fruits, then drizzled with a fresh, citrusy dressing that adds a refreshing taste and keeps the fruit vibrant. This is the perfect snack to munch on during those warm summer days.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 kiwi’s, peeled, cut into slices, then quartered
  • 1 pint blueberries, washed and dried
  • 12 ounces blackberries, gently washed and dabbed dry
  • 1 1/2 pounds strawberries, washed, hulled and cut in halves
  • 1 1/2 cups grapes
  • 1 fresh pineapple, cored, chopped into bite size pieces
  • Juice of 2 oranges
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Instructions

1. Gently wash the blackberries, then dab dry. Remove any blackberries that are soft.

2. Wash the blueberries and strawberries. Cut the stem off the strawberries, then cut in halves.

3. Peel the kiwis, then cut into slices that aren’t too thin. Cut the slices in quarters.

4. Cut the pineapple. To do so, cut the top and bottom off of the pineapple, then cut the pineapple in half. Cut the core out of the pineapple by angling your knife at a 45 degree angle and cutting on either side of the core. Cut the core out of both halves. Cut the halves in half where the core was, so that now you have 4 pieces of pineapple. The skin will still be on. Cut the pineapple, do not cut the whole way through the skin, cutting into bite size pieces. To remove the skin, cut the pineapple at a 45 degree angle between the skin and the pineapple pieces. Discard the skin.

5. Add all of the fruit to your large serving bowl.

6. In a small bowl, add the juice of 2 oranges and 1 lemon. Pour the juice over the fruit. Serve and enjoy!
