Easy Homemade Pizza Dough

This Easy Homemade Pizza Dough takes only 30 minutes to rise and yields a delicious, restaurant quality pizza dough. The trick to getting the dough to be the perfect chewy texture is the high temperature of the oven as well as the use of bread flour. After trying this, you won’t need to buy premade pizza dough anymore!

Is there anything better than pizza night? I think pizza night should be a weekly thing. I love pizza, but don’t always feel like going to the pizza shop to get pizza. This recipe is EASY, and only requires one rise time of 30 minutes.

Here’s what you need to know…

This pizza dough uses bread flour, which is a must. The bread flour creates the chewy, characteristic pizza dough texture. It also helps the pizza form a sturdier crust for the pizza toppings.

The pizza is baked in a 500F oven. Before placing the pizza in the oven, the pizza stone or baking pan must preheat in the 500F oven for 20 minutes. This is essential, as the hot pizza stone will crisp the crust on the underside.

I like to use my rolling pin to wrap the pizza dough around it, then unravel it onto the hot pizza stone.

If you make this recipe, I’d love to hear what you thought in the comments and ratings. Also, make sure you find me on instagram or youtube, where you can see the full cooking video for this as well as some fun behind the scenes.

Description

This Easy Homemade Pizza Dough takes only 30 minutes to rise and yields a delicious, restaurant quality pizza dough. The trick to getting the pizza dough to be the perfect chewy texture is the high temperature of the oven as well as the use of bread flour. After trying this, you won’t need to buy premade pizza dough anymore!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (warmed to 110F)
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Toppings

  • Pizza Sauce (Homemade or store bought)
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded

Instructions

1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add yeast, warm water, honey, flour, salt and olive oil. Don’t add the salt directly on top of the yeast, as it will deactivate the yeast.  Mix on low speed to combine the ingredients, then increase to medium speed. Knead the dough for 8 minutes on medium speed.

2. Place dough in a lightly greased bowl. Spray the top of the dough with nonstick spray, then cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Allow to rise for 30 minutes.

3. Preheat the oven to 500F. Place your pizza stone, or pan in the hot oven for 10 minutes.

4. Once the pizza dough is done rising, punch down the dough, then divide in half. You may place the other half of pizza dough in the freezer to save for later, or make immediately.

5. Roll the dough into a 10 or 12 inch diameter. Lightly flour the dough, then carefully roll the dough onto your rolling pin (this will make for easier transfer).

6. Make sure you have your pizza sauce and pizza toppings ready to use, as you’ll have to work in a timely manner. Very carefully, remove the hot pizza stone, or pan from the oven. Place on an oven safe surface or hot pad. Unroll the pizza dough from the rolling pin onto the hot pizza stone, or pan. Spread the sauce on the pizza, then your pizza toppings. Place pizza back in oven and cook for 6-7 minutes (keep an eye on it as it cooks very fast), or until the pizza crust is golden on the outside and the cheese is melted.
