This homemade cranberry sauce is bursting with fresh, perfectly sweetened cranberries and freshly squeezed orange juice. It’s quick to make and pairs perfectly with your Thanksgiving turkey, or any time of year you want to. make a delicious roast turkey. This homemade cranberry sauce is way better than store bought.

When I think of cranberry sauce, my mind immediately thinks Thanksgiving, because that’s the time of year this side dish is typically served. But, I’m here to remind you that you can make this any time of year. This cranberry sauce recipe comes together quickly. It only requires 4 ingredients, okay 5 if you count water, and is bursting with fresh flavors. I guarantee you won’t crave the store bought cranberry sauce after eating this.

To begin making this, you’ll add the sugars, freshly squeezed orange juice and water to a large skillet over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar is dissolved.

Add in the cranberries

The next step to make this cranberry sauce recipe is to add the cranberries. You’ll bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries will burst open and the sauce will thicken during this time. I advise in the last minute of cooking to CAREFULLY, taste the sauce to see if it is to your desired level of sweetness. If not, add a hint more sugar.

Once the mixture is done simmering, remove the skillet from heat and allow to completely cool.

Serving

Before serving, I like to add orange zest on top of the sauce for appearance. It also adds a delicious flavor.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 pound cranberries
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Instructions

1. Add sugars, water and orange juice to a large skillet. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugars dissolve.

2. Add in cranberries and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and simmer for 10 minutes. Cranberries will burst open and thicken during this time. In the last minute of cooking, I recommend CAREFULLY tasting the sauce (it will be hot), to see if it is sweet enough for your taste. If not, add a touch more sugar.

3. Remove from heat and allow to fully cool. Before serving, serve with orange zest.
