My absolute favorite thing when we go out to eat at a fancy restaurant is the bread and bread dipping oil. I could eat that as the main dish in all honesty!

This bread dipping oil rivals the best bread dipping oil I’ve ever had at a restaurant. You can use fresh or dried herbs, making it convenient to make. It has a hint of red pepper flakes for just a hint of spice, fresh garlic, and lots of freshly grated parmesan cheese. It’s truly delicious and I must admit the first time I made this my family and I devoured this in minutes! I love pairing this bread dipping oil with my easy baguette recipe.

Here’s how to make this bread dipping oil

This bread dipping oil is very easy to make and comes together in just a few minutes. I prefer to add this oil to a shallow bowl, when mixing, because it makes a perfect serving bowl.

Add all of your fresh or dried herbs and spices to a bowl as well as the freshly grated parmesan cheese. Drizzle olive oil over top of the mixture, then stir to combine. Add more olive oil if preferred depending on your desired level of thickness for the bread dipping oil. You can make it as thin or thick as you like!

FAQ

how spicy is this?

This recipe uses red pepper flakes which adds just a hint of spice. It’s just enough to add a little bit of pizzazz to the bread dipping oil. Certainly if you prefer, you can leave this out.

should i use fresh or dried herbs?

When you can, I recommend using fresh herbs, as the fresh herbs do have more flavor than dried herbs. However, using dried herbs results in a delicious bread dipping oil as well, so if you are in a pinch and just don’t have fresh herbs, use the dry herbs.

flavor variations

If you are looking for a flavor variation, feel free to try adding in a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.
